Community Advertising – How to Advertise in Your Neighborhood

The concept of advertising has long been in use even in ancient times.  The Ancient Egyptians used papyrus to send out information about their wares for sale.  The first forms of outdoor advertising were signage propped by the roadside telling one of available produce for sale.  Advertising is a targeted message to a specific group of people encouraging them to take some form of action, to try out a product or a service.

Advertising budgets can be very expensive.  But if you create an advertising strategy and plan its execution well, it can work to your advantage.  Advertising is very powerful medium that can influence the way people behave.  William Bernbach once said “Advertising is fundamentally persuasion and persuasion happens to be not a science, but an art.”

We’ve provided some tips for you on how to start effectively advertising your business in your community:

1.      Reach out to church-goers.

You can tap a huge market of church-goers if you advertise in the weekly newsletter of the church.  These weekly exposures can generate a lot of business for you.  Not only will you be assisting the church in soliciting funds with your advertisement fees, you can also tap into the tight network of these people who regularly go to church.

2.      Use your products as gifts.

It’s normal for companies to produce promotional items as giveaways for the holidays.  Calendars, shirts, mugs, key chains, etc.  Instead of wasting money in producing these impersonal items, why not pre-package some of your products in trial sizes and give those away?  It’s a perfect opportunity for people to try out your products and to generate customer loyalty.

3.      Be at the State Fair.

The annual State Fair brings in huge hordes of people all willing to buy something or another.  This is the perfect avenue for you to showcase your products.  Contact the coordinator and get yourself a booth at the fair!

4.      Get into the local grocery mart.

Everyone goes to the local mart.  What better way to reach your market than thru an avenue that reaches the most number of people.  Contact the grocery owner and see about placing point of sale ads, floor ads or flyers in-store.  Use the back of the store receipt to place your logo and contact information.

Use these effective and easy advertising tips to grow your business.  Lay out the best plans to effectively market you products and service and see your sales go up, up, up.
